Lucy Dowd is thrilled to be part of the 9 to 5 Pets team and is passionate about providing loving, dependable care for pets throughout the Jacksonville Beaches area!
A lifelong animal lover, Lucy has experience caring for a wide variety of animals and understands that every pet has their own unique personality and needs. Her own furry family includes Zeke, a long-haired German Shepherd, and Griffin, an orange cat who quite literally followed her home one day and quickly became part of the family. Over the years, Lucy has also cared for fish, reptiles, turtles, snakes, lizards, geckos, and even hatched and raised chickens from eggs. She previously owned a crested gecko for 15 years and regularly pet sat for friends with exotic pets as well.
Lucy is currently pursuing her degree at the University of North Florida, majoring in English and American Sign Language, with plans to continue on to graduate school. Alongside her studies, she has built an impressive and diverse professional background that reflects her adaptability, organization, and strong communication skills.
Most recently, Lucy worked in nonprofit fundraising, where she combined customer service, outreach, and relationship-building while advocating for meaningful causes. She has also worked as a virtual tutor supporting students from elementary school through post-graduate education in subjects including English, ASL, science, and mathematics. In addition, Lucy spent three summers as a camp counselor at Camp Juliette Low in the mountains of Georgia, where she taught outdoor skills, swim instruction, and cared for children ages 7–17 in an active, fast-paced environment.
Through all of her experiences, Lucy has developed exceptional time management, multitasking, and problem-solving skills, along with a calm and caring demeanor that helps both pets and people feel comfortable around her. She is dependable, detail-oriented, physically active, and truly enjoys spending time outdoors and staying engaged with the animals in her care.
Lucy understands how difficult it can feel to trust someone else with your beloved pets, and she is honored every time a family chooses 9 to 5 Pets to care for them. She looks forward to treating every pet she meets with patience, kindness, love, and the same level of care she would want for her own animals.
