What are the benefits of in-home pet care vs. boarding?

With regular updates and photos, you can enjoy peace of mind knowing your pet is in loving hands.
What areas do you service?
We serve Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach, Jacksonville Beach, Ponte Vedra Beach, Nocatee, Saint Johns, Mandarin, Fruit Cove, and North Saint Augustine in Northeast Florida.

Do you board pets in your sitters’ homes?
No, we do not board pets. All care takes place in your home to keep your pet comfortable and minimize stress.
Will your sitter stay (live in) at my home?
We offer House Sitting and Overnight Pet Care which starts in the evening, as a bundle of 3 visits. It includes a 1-hour evening visit (between 4-6pm), 9-hour overnight stay (10pm-7am), and 1-hour morning visit (7-8am). We can also add a mid-day check-in visit between 11am and 1pm to ensure no more than 4 hours goes in between our visits with your pet. This is our closest offering to live-in care. We will use your home as our base, ensuring your pet gets plenty of attention; and only come and go to check in on our own pets or other clients’ pets in the area we may be helping with.
Will I meet my sitter before getting started?
Yes, we offer a complimentary “meet and greet” with your primary sitter before the first service. This helps us get to know you and your pet and ensures everyone is comfortable with the care routine.
Can you watch over just my house (no pets) while I’m away?
Yes, we provide House Sitting as one of our Concierge Services, including collecting mail, watering plants, taking out trash, and giving your home a “lived-in” look while you’re away.
How do I get started?
You can contact us by phone at (904) 655-4700 or fill out our online Contact Form. We’ll then guide you through the setup process and schedule a “meet and greet” to get to know your pet before your first scheduled service.
How do I best schedule services for my pet?
You can schedule services through our Time To Pet client portal or mobile app by using the scheduling tool or by sending our Client Service Team a message under the “conversation” tab. You’ll find our flexible visit durations and service windows allow for a customized care routine for your pet. We recommend giving at least 24-hours notice for new requests. You will receive a confirmation via email once your service request has been confirmed. These services will also be listed under the “schedule” tab of your client portal and mobile app once they have been confirmed on our side.
How much advance notice do your sitters need?
Please provide at least 24-hours notice for new requests. Last-minute bookings may incur a $5 fee. For urgent needs, contact us through the portal or app for the quickest response.
How do I stay in touch with my sitter while I’m away?
We recommend using our client portal or app for communication. This keeps both your sitter and our client service team informed and maintains a record of all messages. You can also contact our office directly at (904) 655-4700 or [email protected] if needed.
Will your sitter hold onto my key to access my home while I’m away?
We do not keep keys. Instead, we recommend using a secure lock box or hiding a key on your property, if you prefer.
If our primary access point will be a garage door or front door keypad, we still recommend hiding or securing a backup key on your property in the event these systems fail.
To help save you a step, we can supply you with a small Master Lock® lock box for $30, if needed, during the meet and greet. It will be yours to keep and use. We will also be glad to show you how to use it and set it to your personal code.
What is your cancellation policy?
Except during holiday periods, cancellations may be made up to 24 hours in advance of a scheduled visit. After that period, you will be charged for the visit.
During Holiday periods, 100% payment is due in advance to secure your reservation; cancellations 14 or more days in advance will receive 50% of your deposit back; cancellations 7-13 days in advance will receive 25% of your deposit back; and cancellations occurring the day of or up to 6 days prior to the reserved dates will receive 0% of your deposit back.
Are there extra fees for services rendered on a holiday?
Yes, a $10 holiday fee applies per visit on major holidays. 100% of these fees are paid to the sitters.
How do you accept payment?
Payments are accepted via credit card through our client portal and mobile app for easy and secure transactions. A 50% deposit is required for any service contracts that extend beyond 2 weeks and a 100% deposit is required to secure all holiday reservations.
Do you offer discounts?
We do not offer discounts for our services. However, when you refer a neighbor, friend, or family member and they book their first service with us, we’ll send you a $25 referral credit towards any future 9 to 5 Pets services as our way of saying ‘thank you’ for sharing the love and helping us spread our JOY for what we do at 9 to 5 Pets!
How do I leave a tip for my sitter?
Tips are appreciated but not expected. When you pay your invoice through our client portal or mobile app, you’ll have the option to leave a tip. 100% of your tip will be automatically dispersed to the teammate(s) who cared for your pet(s) during that service period.
What if my preferred sitter is not available?
At 9 to 5 Pets, we assign each client a primary sitter/walker to maintain consistency, as we believe this serves your pets and home best. While we aim for your preferred sitter to be available, we can’t always guarantee it. That’s why we provide a small team, including a secondary or tertiary sitter, who can step in as needed. They’ll have full access to your pet’s care instructions and past visit notes, ensuring seamless care. If you’d like to meet your backup sitter in advance, we can arrange it for a $20 fee, which goes directly to the sitter for their time. You can also learn more about our team by visiting our Team page.
What if my pet is anxious, uncomfortable with new people, or aggressive?
If your pet has bitten someone aggressively in the past, we’re unable to provide service. For anxious pets, we recommend scheduling visits before your absence to help them adjust to their sitter. For skittish or nervous pets, we’ll assess the situation during the meet and greet and develop a plan to ensure everyone’s safety and comfort. If your pet becomes aggressive while you’re away, we may discontinue service and transport them to a vet or boarding facility for safety.
Are your sitters comfortable caring for special needs pets and administering medications?
Yes! Our team is experienced in caring for pets with special needs and administering medications, including insulin injections. All our sitters are certified in Pet CPR and First Aid. Our goal is to ensure you have complete peace of mind while you are away.
Can your sitters work alongside other sitters, friends, family members, or neighbors?
We understand you may have friends or family checking in on your pet while you’re away, but it’s important that we’re informed in advance of any non-9 to 5 Pets individuals entering your home. Please provide their names, dates, and times. If someone unexpected is present during our visit, we will leave for safety reasons and may notify local authorities. We are not responsible for any incidents or damages during periods when others have access to your home.
What happens if my pet becomes ill while under your care?
Your pet’s health and well-being are our top priority. If your pet becomes ill, we will first try to contact you immediately. If we’re unable to reach you, we will take the necessary steps to ensure your pet’s care, including consulting a vet or emergency provider based on the guidelines you’ve provided (excluding euthanasia). Any actions taken will be focused on your pet’s health and safety, and you will be responsible for any associated costs.
Can you check in on my cat every 2-3 days?
Our standard of care requires at least one daily visit to ensure your cat’s safety and well-being. If something happens while we’re not there, it may be too late by the next scheduled visit. Daily visits also allow us to provide enrichment and attention, keeping your cat happy and comfortable while you’re away.
What inspired you to start 9 to 5 Pets?
I’ve always felt a deep connection with animals, having grown up around them and always having pets. After experiencing the challenges of balancing work and pet care, I wanted to help others avoid guilt and stress when they can’t be there for their pets. I started 9 to 5 Pets to provide peace of mind for pet parents and to ensure pets receive the love and attention they deserve.
What does it mean that you are certified, insured, bonded, and background-checked?
We take our responsibility seriously, providing peace of mind and protection for both you and your pets. Our company is a registered LLC and all our Pet Care Professionals undergo thorough screening, including background checks and Pet CPR, First Aid & Care certification. 9 to 5 Pets also carries a General Liability insurance policy to protect against injury and damage to other people or property as well as Care, Custody and Control coverage to protect our clients’ property and their pets should their pets get hurt or their property get damaged on our watch. 9 to 5 Pets also carries a bond to protect our clients’ property against any theft that might occur while we are watching over their home.
Are your sitters experienced? What is your hiring process?
Our pet care professionals go through extensive screening, vetting, and training before joining our team. We require stellar references, a clean background check, and certifications in Pet CPR, First Aid & Care. We also provide ongoing education to keep our team up-to-date on the best practices for pet safety, behavior, and wellness.
